Dear Small Museums,

You never take up too much space, but you hold so much of it. You live in former homes, barns, depots, storefronts, and borrowed rooms, and somehow turn them into places where memory feels safe. You remember what others overlook.
You tell the stories that didn’t make the textbook, the plaque, or the permanent exhibit. You keep names alive. You keep hands busy. You keep doors open, often with more hope than budget. You are stitched together with care: volunteer hours, donated lightbulbs, handwritten labels, and the quiet persistence of people who refuse to let history disappear. You welcome school groups, first-time visitors, returning neighbors, and curious wanderers… sometimes all at once. You adapt. You improvise. You make room. You are resilient without pretending it’s easy. You are creative without needing permission. You are powerful precisely because you are personal.

This Valentine’s Day, know this:
You matter. Your work matters. Your scale does not limit your impact. You are not “less than.” You are essential.

With admiration, gratitude, and a whole lot of heart, we love you. Always.
